Regulations of International Festival of Russian Music in Vancouver

City of Vancouver Russian Music FestivalThe main goal of the festival is to preserve and to promote the Russian musical and cultural traditions around the world as well as to familiarize the international community with the Russian cultural heritage, new talents and popular developments in the Russian music.

Through the consolidation of professionals and amateurs along this historically and culturally rich direction, the Festival will lead toward popularization of the Russian music in the world.

The Festival represents a unique opportunity for students, parents, teachers and music fans to hear high quality performances by the musicians of Greater Vancouver area and the guests and to enjoy live Russian musical culture. They can become a part of this great holiday from any place on earth using the Internet. It is a fundamental position of the festival organizers - to give the opportunity to any person on the planet Earth who is interested in the Russian music to attend the Festival and to participate in it.



Repertoire Rules

Repertoire of Vancouver Festival of Russian MusicParticipants are allowed to perform one piece of their own choice.

Repertoire may be chosen from the British Columbia Conservatory of Music Syllabus, Royal Conservatory of Music Syllabus or Conservatory Canada Syllabus or VIFORM Syllabus on the website www.viform.org

Competitors are responsible for providing adjudicators with their original copies of the piece. Only original copies are acceptable. Use of photocopied music is strictly prohibited.

Contestants without a submitted copy of their piece will not be graded.

The piece performed is to be by a Russian or former Soviet composer.

Contestants in the Piano, Strings, Woodwind, Brass and Vocal Divisions are to memorize their selected piece, no sheet music is permitted, otherwise the grades are lowered.

Competitive Group Structure

Festival of Russian Music Participants perform one piece by a Russian or former Soviet composer, which may be taken from the British Columbia Conservatory of Music Syllabus, Royal Conservatory of Music Syllabus or Conservatory Canada Syllabus or VIFORM Syllabus. If the chosen piece is not from any of the abovementioned Syllabi, the participant must provide a copy of sheet music for this piece with his or her application; the jury will assign the level of difficulty.

CONCERT GROUP CLASS - 3 pieces of different style, must include one piece of a Russian composer:


Junior Group - 9 yrs & under (the pieces should be of Gr. 5 or higher; time limit 10min):
Fee $30.00
Intermediate Group - 12 yrs & under (the pieces should be of Gr. 7 or higher; time limit 12min): Fee $35.00
Senior Group - 15 yrs & under (the pieces should be of Gr. 9 or higher; time limit 16min): Fee $40.00
Open Group - 16 yrs and up (the pieces should be of Gr. 10 or higher; time limit 20min): Fee $45.00

CONCERTO CLASS


Junior Group - 9 yrs & under (1 movement or complete miniature work; time limit 12min): Fee $30.00
Intermediate Group - 12 yrs & under (1 movement or complete miniature work; time limit 18min): Fee $35.00
Senior Group - 15 yrs & under (1 movement; time limit 20 min): Fee $40.00
Open Group - 16 yrs and up (1 movement; time limit 20min): Fee $45.00

All competitors will receive a written adjudication as well as a certificate based on their mark - Winners of the first three places will be awarded with a special prize and opportunity to perform at the Gala Concert.
All performers will receive a certificate of participation.

The Gala Concert

The Gala Concert

  • The Vancouver International Festival of Russian Music reserves the right to select performers and repertoire for the Gala Concert. These selections will be based on adjudicator's recommendations.
  • Performers selected to play at the Gala Concert will be notified by phone or Email.
  • If selected as a winner of an award, the competitor must be available to perform at the Gala Concert to receive the award. Participant is responsible for notifying the Festival if unable to perform at the Gala concert

  • By entering the “Vancouver International Festival of Russian Music”, participants and their guardians agree to the Liability waiver in the General Rules & Regulations.
  • Form for each class entered. Do not staple, or tape Cheques or Entries.
  • All information must be fully completed for the entry to be processed. Please print clearly.
  • Full payments must be enclosed with the entry. One cheque can include several entries for the same participant or teacher or family members. Please attach all entry forms with the cheque.
